Slipper success

Having bred and sold Slipper winner Sebring, as well as having raced previous Slipper place getters, Corumbene Stud celebrated today with the success of their homebred Exceed And Excel filly Overreach who took out the world’s richest two-year-old race, the Group One Golden Slipper at Rosehill by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

Providing the Darley stallion Exceed And Excel with a one-two finish, with his colt Sidestep finishing in second, trainer Gai Waterhouse was always bullish about the chances of Overreach in the Slipper.

Jumping away well from her inside gate, jockey Tommy Berry took his filly forward to sit just behind the leaders and once the field started to fan on the home turn, he drove his filly along the rails to get a break on the field and it was left to the Sidestep, and the winner’s stable mate Sweet Idea to do the chasing, but the result was already set in concrete.

Taking the event in impressive fashion, the connections were all smiles, as well as tears after the event.

Taking her career record to three wins and one second from four starts and taking her career earnings to just shy of $2.3million.

Overreach is out of the unbeaten Snippers mare Bahia, a half-sister to Exceed And Excel’s G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort as well as the four-time Listed winner Consular. Bahia has a weanling full-brother to Overreach on the ground.

With a draft of 11 yearlings set to sell at the 2013 Inglis Easter yearling sale next week, the draft of Corumbene Stud is a must see and can be viwed by clicking here.
