Muraqaba To Melbourne

Purchased from the draft of Corumbene Stud at the 2013 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by Anthony Cummings, the now four-year-old Muraqaba (Tale Of The Cat x Spirit of Grace) heads to Melbourne on Saturday for the inaugural running of the $250,000 Inglis Cup.

Raced over 2000m at Caulfield, the race is only open to graduates of the Inglis Sales and has brought together a fine line up of gallopers.

A winner of all his three starts to date highlighted by an impressive win last time out of 1900m at Canterbury, jockey Blake Shinn who has ridden him at his past two starts will stick with him on Saturday.

Purchased for $120,000 by Cummings, it is a pedigree he knows all too well, as Muraqaba is a half-brother to Turffontein, a Johannesburg colt Cummings’ trained to win the Group 1 William Reid Stakes and the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, which is ironically run on Saturday’s meeting.

Turffontein retired to stand at Blue Gum Farm in Melbourne as is the sire of the exciting filly Fontiton and the Group 2 winner Fontein Ruby.

Best of luck to the connections of Muraqaba in Saturday’s race.
