Golden Double aims

Brilliant filly Overreach will attempt a unique ‘‘Golden Group 1 double’’ at Rosehill Gardens this spring carnival.

Owner-breeder George Altomonte has confirmed Golden Slipper winner Overreach is being set for the Golden Rose in September.

No horse has managed to win both races in a calendar year, although Forensics did claim the double in 2007-08 when the second leg was shifted to autumn following the equine influenza outbreak.

Overreach has not raced since finishing third in the ATC Sires Produce Stakes behind Guelph in April but Altomonte said that his filly had grown and strengthened during her spell at the owner’s picturesque Corumbene Stud.
